Bad Practices that Professional Exterior Painting Contractors will Never Do

Your home’s exterior is designed to stand up against the elements, from the powerful winds to the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun. The exterior paint provides much of this protection. If applied correctly, the exterior paint can help in guarding your home and stay durable for a lot of years. But, this is only possible when you hire the services of professional exterior painters. Otherwise, you end up with a poor paint job that is expected to fail right away. Paint failures can happen when your chosen painter adopts the following bad practices:

Check out for painters in Calgary at interiorpainter.ca and get the job done in a professional manner and that too at an affordable price.

Applying Paint to Damp Wood

Professional painters from Spray-Net will never do this. In case it rains in the days before your project is scheduled to start, they will have to tell you to postpone the work until your home dries. But, it could usually dry completely after one sunny day when only the wood’s surface is wet. When you hire the services of professional exterior painters, you don’t have to worry about any of these problems since they know how to avoid future paint failure.

Not Cleaning the Wood Siding

The paint does not adhere to a dirty surface and applying paint to it can result in issues down the road. Before painting, a professional painter will power wash or clean the siding with a detergent or a stiff bristle brush. They will not use steel or iron for cleaning it because iron stain can coat the wood. They will let the cleaned surface to dry completely before they start painting.

Painting the Wood when It’s Too Hot or Too Cold

When the surface temperature hits at least 90 degrees F, painting must not be carried out. The paint is expected to blister when the wall gets too hot after being painted. Professional painters pay attention to the sun’s position while painting. Moreover, when using oil-based paint, they apply it at temperatures below 40 degrees and above 50 degrees when using latex paints. Usually, the temperature is expected to remain above these minimums for 24 hours after painting. But experienced painters know which time of the year is best for painting homes.

Applying Exterior Paint to Decaying Wood

Exterior paint can deteriorate when applied to a decaying wood. If wood remains wet for long periods, it will begin to rot. Painting soft and spongy wood is never a good idea as this surface cannot hold it effectively. Thus, this wood must be replaced before painting.
